Qualifications

  • Computer science degree or equivalent
  • Previous experience is of value however recent graduates are also welcome to apply

Desired Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of several programming languages. At least one higher level 4th generation programming language; others may include “C#”, “C++”, javascript, web languages (i.e., Perl, PHP), jQuery, CSS, etc.
  • Experience using Oracle, IBM IDS (formerly Informix), or other large scale RDBMS
  • Experience with UNIX or Linux, as well as Windows
  • Exposure to XML, XSL, JSON, Web Services and other leading edge inter-system collaboration techniques
  • Experience with reusable components, objects, WPF, Windows Forms; familiarity with XSL transformations, etc.
  • Understanding of client/server applications and experience with websocket/socket/HTTP/SSL communications
  • Exposure to map oriented spatial presentation tools and their interface to other development tools (e.g. ESRI)

Assistant Professors in Computer Science, Teaching Stream – University of Toronto

The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the University of Toronto Mississauga seeks two enthusiastic and innovative lecturers for two-year Contractually-Limited Term Appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in the field of Computer Science, beginning September 1, 2016.

We seek candidates who have a record of excellent teaching and who have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, as evidenced by a strong statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations and letters of reference. We are seeking individuals who can teach a variety of courses, at all levels, across the discipline, engage with students in and out of the classroom, in and out of courses, be able to modify and create new curriculum for existing and new courses, will contribute extensively to the culture of the department, be available to support research and project initiatives at the undergraduate level.

Candidates are required to
1) Have a graduate degree in Computer Science.
2) Have a record of teaching excellence, this includes creating an enjoyable and educational experience for students.
3) Have taught a variety of undergraduate Computer Science courses; teaching experience in both systems and theory courses is an asset.

Preference is given to candidates who
1) Have developed curriculum for new and existing courses
2) Have experience engaging with students both in and out of a course setting, one on one and in a class setting, for example, running seminars, contests, workshops, engaging with student run initiatives.
3) Have experience contributing to departmental administration, for example, managing TAs.
4) Have experience supervising undergraduate or graduate research projects.

Responsibilities include undergraduate teaching, managing teaching assistants, developing course materials, and curriculum development. In addition, each faculty member has some responsibility for student recruitment and departmental administration. Faculty members are also encouraged to initiate and supervise undergraduate projects and engage with students.
