Greetings, QSC Instructors!
The Computing Instructional Support Team (CIST) is here to support you in your course prep for the fall. Here are some updates:
Auto-Captioning with Ensemble Now Available
Videos should have captions to remain fully compliant with accessibility legislation, so all instructors are highly encouraged to use this feature. Having captions also enables you to use the interactive transcript feature of Ensemble, which allows students to search for keywords and jump to various points in the video.
Queen’s Single Sign-On should be available for Zoom on or around August 24th.
Teaching Assistant Toolkit
The Center for Teaching and Learning has created a comprehensive toolkit for Teaching Assistants. It contains useful information about being a TA in general, as well as tips for doing it online. It’s a handy resource to pass along to your TAs.
Training Sessions / Workshops
- Perusall Workshop
Facilitated by Eric Mazur, Balkanski Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Harvard University
Friday, August 14, 4:00 PM EST – Register Now Teaching remotely this semester or for the entire school year? Join Eric Mazur, Balkanski Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Harvard University for an interactive discussion on improving remote teaching. Eric will share some of the things that worked well for him as he made the rapid transition to online teaching this past Spring. During this session, Eric will model live lectures with pre-class reading assignments and asynchronous, interactive video. Participants will start by playing the roles of ‘students’ and completing a short pre-class ‘assignment’ with interactive discussion on both text and video.
Instructor Summer (Camp)Fireside Chat
Join the Computing Instructional Support Team (CIST) for a chat about how you are preparing to take your courses online in the fall. We’re doing these every week and will be planning some demos of tools that you will have access to.
Our next meeting will be Monday, August 17th at 2:30pm. Join the Teams meeting here.
Hope to see you then.
