Web Developer

kikin Engineering

kikin engineers work on a variety of hard problems (semantic indexing, named entity recognition, federated search, behavioral profiling, on-the-fly 3D presentation, latency reduction, etc.). We work in several programming languages to best solve each problem (Java, python, PHP, JavaScript, C++, Objective C); and by leveraging several programs and markups (Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML, CSS, SVG), we design and build elegant user interfaces. Our application spans a user’s domain (browser plug-in with a JavaScript business layer); reaches our servers and CDNs; and extends to third party APIs (e.g. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Amazon). Desktop Application Developer

Required

* Proficiency in Java (or transferable OO language experience)
* Ability to apply software design patterns and architecture best practices
* Experience building large applications with rich interfaces using one or more UI frameworks (e.g. Swing)
* High-level of skill a must: Masters Computer Science, five years hard time, or equivalent experience

Nice to have

* 2D and/or 3D graphics development experience
* Experience with HCI concepts such as user-centered design, interaction and usability evaluation

Computational Geographer

Responsibilities

* Provide GIS-related development services and general guidance to teams on a variety of different projects
* Use agile processes to develop, test, and debug software solutions leveraging a range of proprietary, commercial, and open source GIS toolkits
* Find and apply appropriate solutions to open-ended technical problems

Required Skills & Experience:

* Java, .NET or C++ experience
* In-depth knowledge of GIS theory and practice from both a client and server perspective
* Experience developing software using ESRI toolkits (or equivalent)
* Ability to mentor developers with limited GIS domain knowledge
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Candidate to have a Masters or higher degree in GIS Computer Science or Geography.
* 2 to 5 yrs experience ideal.

Program Manager

The successful candidate will collaboratively help imagine and deliver solutions. Deliverables and processes need to be managed within budget and schedule, in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will provide customer, team and program leadership.

Responsibilities

Customer

* Act as the principal customer interface on program matters
* Build customer relationships, track customer requirements, and understand customer needs
* Identify, qualify and propose new projects to customers. Actively solicit follow-on business

Program

* Manage all program obligations from administering complex projects/programs, to analysis, design, development and maintenance
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define project requirements and technical solutions
* Plan and schedule project deliverables, goals and milestones
* Design and maintain technical and project documentation with customers
* Define resource plans and schedule for project/program implementation
* Create strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning
* Efficiently identify and solve project issues
* Set and manage software quality program to meet customer requirements

Team

* Direct and oversee project engineering teams. Coordinate management and technical decisions, while effectively arbitrating and resolving problems associated with products and projects

I would be grateful if you could forward this to the appropriate person(s) in your departments.

I am an art historian researching early catalogue descriptions of works of art by Rembrandt. I am trying to develop a statistical database for comparing data (specific value judgments and also prices recorded by various cataloguers). I am looking to engage a student researcher to help me design the database and analyze the results — this could be either an undergraduate who would apply to work with me under the summer research program (www.queensu.ca/ors/USSRP.html) or a graduate student who could be compensated through my SSHRC grant. I plan to engage the help of art history students, but the actual creation and analysis of the database seems like
more of a job for a statistician or a computer science student (I am also contacting the math department). Please let me know if you have anyone who would be interested in discussing this with me.
